Tokyo to Host the 10th International Congress on Industrial Applied Mathematics in 2023
The Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB) delightedly announced the winning the bid for the 10th International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM 2023) on receiving the decision at the Board Meeting of the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM)* held in Valencia, Spain in May 2017.
Having been founded in Paris in 1984, the Congress is held every four years attracting more than 3,000 participants related to mathematics from all around the world. The 10th International Congress will be held in Tokyo for the first time at Waseda University, one of the historical and distinguished universities of Japan, in August 2023.
One of the main factors that helped Tokyo to win the bid was the recognition of Japan’s long-standing contribution to the mathematical society and ICIAM. The other remarkable factor was the successful united effort as “Team Japan” in preparing the proposal to host ICIAM 2023 jointly with two powerful math societies such as the Japan Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (JSIAM) as well as the Mathematical Society of Japan (MSJ), while planning to showcase the enhanced collaboration with the industry during the ICIAM 2023.
This honorable success would have never happened without strong support from industry, academia, government, a long-term commitment of Congress Director Prof. Shin’ichi Oishi, Deputy-director Prof. Hisashi Okamoto and other members of the Organizing Committee, in addition to the TCVB’s assistance for preparing the bid papers based on the rich experience and organizing site inspection. Furthermore, the assured financial and in-kind support from Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) and TCVB were also decisive factors.
The convening of ICIAM will surely reveal its significant impact on the industry and academia of the country. TMG and TCVB will continue supporting the JSIAM and the MSJ to deliver a successful and unforgettable 10th ICIAM 2023 in Tokyo.
