Tokyo to Host the 31st Inter-Pacific Bar Association Annual Meeting and Conference in 2021

28 Feb 2019 PRESS RELEASES

The Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB) is delighted to announce that Tokyo has placed the winning bid to host the 31st Inter-Pacific Bar Association Annual Meeting and Conference (IPBA 2021)* on April 21-24, 2021 at The Okura Tokyo.

IPBA 2021, the fourth such gathering to be held in Japan, is expected to attract over 1,300 specialists, including 800 foreign participants from more than 60 countries. These specialists will engage in discussions of legal, business, and policy issues, and perform detailed analyses of the new opportunities and challenges facing the Asia-Pacific Region in-line with the IPBA 2021 theme “Wisdom for the next 30 years.”

The deciding factors for Tokyo winning the bid was the IPBA’s recognition of Japan’s long-standing contribution to the organization’s mission, and the strong proposal made by the Tokyo Bid Committee chaired by Miyuki Ishiguro. The bid committee was highly motivated to secure hosting rights for the convention in 2021, as the year will mark the 30th anniversary of the IPBA establishment at the inaugural Tokyo conference in 1991.

This resounding success in the IPBA 2021 bid process would never have happened without the strong support and steadfast commitment from the Inter-Pacific Bar Association Japan, its president Shiro Kuniya and its members. The TCVB also played a major role, bringing its considerable experience in this arena to bear by helping the Tokyo Bid Committee prepare its bid proposal and presentation materials. Finally, promises from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) to provide financial and in-kind support for the convention were also important factors in the decision.

The IPBA convention’s triumphant return to Tokyo – the birthplace of the organization – is sure to foster a variety of significant positive impacts on the Asia-Pacific Region, such as by enabling better cooperation and exchange of resources among professionals throughout its diverse array of countries.
The TMG and TCVB will continue to support the IPBA in order to ensure a successful and unforgettable 31st IPBA Annual Meeting and Conference in Tokyo.
