The Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB) is delighted to announce that Tokyo has placed the winning bid to host the 18th World Congress for Esophageal Diseases at the Keio Plaza Hotel on September 26 – 28, 2022.

Looking back in history, the International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus (ISDE)* was founded by Dr. Kōmei Nakayama in 1979, and the first ISDE World Congress was held in Tokyo in 1980. Returning the ISDE World Congress to Tokyo in 2022, will mark a significant milestone for Asia and will provide numerous benefits for up-and-coming esophageal professionals in the region.

ISDE 2022 World Congress is expected to have 1,100 delegates from over 40 countries. A large number of delegates from Japan and the neighboring countries are expected. When ISDE 2010 World Congress was held in Kagoshima, more than 800 delegates attended, ranking 2nd in the ISDE record at that time.

Also ISDE and the Japan Esophageal Society (JES) have agreed to co-host ISDE 2022 World Congress and the JES Annual Meeting. The JES currently has over 2,800 members, of which about 1,200 usually attend the Annual Meeting.
