Tokyo to Host SIGGRAPH Asia Again in 2021
The Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB) is delighted to announce that Tokyo has secured the winning bid to host the 14th ACM SIGGRAPH Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques in Asia (SIGGRAPH Asia 2021), at the Tokyo International Forum from December 14 - 17, 2021.
SIGGRAPH Asia started off being a secondary convention of SIGGRAPH - an industry and academic event that has been held in the North America every year since 1974. Through the years, the event has now become the region’s largest and most influential conference and exhibition in the field of computer graphics and interactive techniques, with thousands of attendees participating each year.
SIGGRAPH Asia started in 2008 and has since been held three times in Japan : Yokohama in 2009, Kobe in 2015, and Tokyo in 2018. SIGGRAPH Asia 2021, the fourth of such gathering in Japan, will be held at the Tokyo International Forum (TIF), the capital’s leading conference facility, and is expected to attract over 10,000 participants from more than 50 countries.
The deciding factors for Tokyo winning the bid was the tremendous success of the Tokyo-hosted SIGGRAPH Asia in December 2018. Held at the TIF, the gathering attracted 9,735 industry-related participants from 59 countries and regions, and was supported by 118 exhibitors and sponsors. This was a record-breaking number in the history of the prestigious conference and exhibition.
Meanwhile, a large team of interested parties in Japan, including the Japanese bid committee, the Business Event Team of the TCVB, and local sponsors, worked together to make a compelling case for hosting SIGGRAPH Asia 2021 and this resulted in the success of the bid.
TIF, the planned venue for SIGGRAPH Asia 2021, has already proven to be an ideal facility to hold the conference, with its perfect accessibility and impressive array of innovative functions.
In addition to the above factors, a significantly expanded pledge for financial and in-kind support starting this year from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) and the TCVB, as well as their help with the preparation of bid documents and suggestions regarding the bidding process based on their rich experience, also played a major role in Tokyo securing the prestigious bid.
