The government of Japan announced that effective from June 1, the cap on daily arrivals is now doubled to 20,000, while COVID-19 testing rules have been eased for travelers.* Under the New Japanese Border Measures, the countries and regions are divided into three groups depending on their current Covid-19 situation: blue, yellow, or red (see table below for details).

Travelers from areas with the lowest infection rates are designated as blue and are exempt from arrival testing and quarantine - regardless of vaccination status.
Areas designated as yellow are exempt from arrival testing and quarantine if they have a vaccination certificate. However, on-arrival testing and quarantine still apply to those who cannot provide a valid vaccination certificate.
Countries and regions designated as red are required to do a PCR test on arrival and isolate at home or a government-designated facility.
For all countries and regions, the pre-departure PCR test remains mandatory and must be taken within 72 hours of departure to Japan.
