Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB) is delighted to announce the winning of the bid for the Symposium of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE). The Symposium is planned to be held from May 13 to May 16, 2025, and is expected to attract 300 participants from around the globe. One of Japan's most respected national universities, Waseda University, is intended to become the venue to host the Symposium conjointly with Rihga Royal Hotel Tokyo, located in close proximity to the university.

The recognition of the Japanese Group of IABSE's long-standing contributions to the engineering society and IABSE was one of the main factors that helped Tokyo win the bid. Furthermore, the assured financial and in-kind support from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) and TCVB were also decisive factors.

IABSE 47th Symposium will be the third such gathering in Japan and the second time in Tokyo. It will provide opportunities to exchange knowledge and advance structural engineering practice worldwide in the service of the profession and the public interest. Simultaneously, it will promote cooperation and encourage structural engineers' awareness and responsibility toward the society's needs to improve and foster collaboration.

Having been established in 1929 in Zurich, IABSE has members in 90 countries and 58 National Groups worldwide dealing with all aspects of structural engineering, including the science and art of planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance, rehabilitation, and preservation, taking into consideration technical, economic, environmental, aesthetic, and social aspects.

The Symposium's convening will significantly impact the country's academia. TMG and TCVB will continue supporting IABSE to deliver a successful and unforgettable Symposium in 2025 from Tokyo.
