The Current Situation in Tokyo
The Japanese government extended the ongoing COVID-19 state of emergency to the end of May to bring down the number of confirmed cases and ease the strain on hospitals.
The restrictions remain unchanged regarding the closure of major commercial facilities, including amusement parks, movie theaters, shopping malls, and department stores, except for floor space selling daily necessities. Restaurants and bars serving alcohol or providing karaoke services remain closed. Dining facilities stopping their service of alcohol may remain open until 8 p.m.
Events are restricted to half the venue capacity and up to 5,000 attendees and must conclude by 9 p.m.
