Tokyo has strengthened its position as one of the world's most influential urban centers, rising to second place in the newly released Global Power City Index (GPCI)ーa comprehensive annual evaluation conducted by the Institute for Urban Strategies at The Mori Memorial Foundation.

The GPCI assesses the "magnetism" of 48 major cities across six key categories: Economy, Research & Development, Cultural Interaction, Livability, Environment, and Accessibility. These indicators measure a city's ability to attract people, businesses, capital, and visitors from around the world.

After maintaining third place for nine consecutive years, Tokyo's ascent to second place reflects its continued evolution as a global hub for innovation, culture, and high‑quality urban living. The city achieved its first-ever 1st place in Livability, ranked 2nd in Cultural Interaction, and jumped from 18th to 7th in Environmentーunderscoring its commitment to sustainability and quality of life.

For the global business events community, Tokyo's rise in the GPCI reinforces the city's reputation as a premier destination for international conferences, exhibitions, and corporate gatherings. Its world‑class infrastructure, efficient transportation networks, diverse cultural experiences, and commitment to environmental sustainability make it an ideal setting for organizations seeking both impact and inspiration.

As Tokyo continues to enhance its global competitiveness, Business Events Tokyo remains dedicated to supporting planners and organizers with comprehensive services, local expertise, and access to the city's expanding portfolio of venues and experiences. Tokyo's upward momentum in the GPCI is a testament to its enduring strengthーand an invitation for the world to discover everything the city has to offer.
