Current Status of the Business Events Industry
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) is carefully monitoring the situation in Tokyo. In her weekly address, Governor Koike is requesting that event organizers and facilities administrators keep working together to avert cluster outbreaks, stressing that various industries should thoroughly implement infection prevention measures according to the TMG guidelines.
Event capacity limitation:
From July 10 the government relaxed participation guidance, raising the maximum number of event participants from 1,000 to 5,000 participants. Indoor events may be held while keeping numbers under 50% of venue capacity. Outdoor events are also permitted for up to 5,000 people.
Further Relaxation of Domestic and Overseas Travel Restrictions
Domestic movement across the borders of prefectures was permitted from June 19 and remains unchanged.
Talks concerning relaxing restrictions on business-travel with Thailand, Australia and New Zealand are ongoing, as well as negotiations to relaunch business travel between 10 Asian countries: Brunei, Cambodia, China, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan.
With the relaxation of travel restrictions, new testing centers for the novel coronavirus are planned to be set up outside Haneda and Narita airports this summer.
The COVID-19 safety stickers
TMG issued COVID-19 safety stickers earlier this month for various businesses including those connected with business events, as part of initiatives to encourage thorough implementation of the Tokyo Disease Control Measures Guidelines for Businesses. The guidelines have been formulated with the dual aims of preventing the spread of the novel coronavirus and maintaining socioeconomic activity.
